Welcome to My FND Journey
At "A Place to be Seen", I believe in the power of shared experiences to create connection and understanding. My FND Journey is a space where we explore the challenges and triumphs of living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
What is FND?
FND is a complex condition that affects the functioning of the nervous system, leading to a variety of physical and neurological symptoms. It can be challenging to diagnose and manage, but through stories and insights, I aim to shed light on this often misunderstood disorder.
My Personal Journey
Through personal reflections and experiences, I hope to share my journey with FND. After 14 weeks of being hospitalised and trialled beyond what I thought I was capable of holding, I somehow came out and have many scars but also lessons have been learnt. From diagnosis to treatment, from setbacks to breakthroughs, these stories are often met with hardship but also offer hope, understanding, and I truly believe a sense of community to those navigating similar paths.
It is a controversial diagnosis and I am conflicted as I am still learning and feel it is hard to simply place in a mental health box where education and compassion is lacked. However I am not ignorant to the impact of mental health on this journey of illness. In my experience health professionals mostly have caused more suffering then support. You will see some raw posts here about my mental health experiences. I wrote a lot while in hospital as I really had to pull myself through some stigmatised notions. I am not sure how but I hope with time and the right voices, advocacy can happen and how people are treated with any mental health struggles are challenged and positively changed, especially in the health system. All humans deserve kindness.
Dear loved one or carer who is seeking more understanding
If you are a loved one or carer of someone going through an unseen illness. I am so glad you are here and truly hope you can find understanding. And there, kindness and support may be met as this is one of the most powerful gifts in someone's health journey. You may not think we need you but your efforts to connect with us is so appreciated and very special to us.
